Eager to explore the great forest of the Redwoods, we woke up early and got a great head start on the day. Unfortunately 15 minutes into the drive we had to turn around- the memory card for the camera with alll our photos was missing… Jason had misplaced it. But he totally redeemed himself! After a few seconds of searching and pulling the bed apart Jason walked out of that hotel room with the memory card high in hand!
So a slow start to the day but we were finally on our way. You can’t really appreciate the size of the Redwoods until you see them up close. They are MASSIVE. We journeyed through the forest of Redwoods for about 2 hours and it really felt like every tree was bigger than the next. The tree in the picture above measures 21.6 ft in diameter and 304 ft tall.
As we were making our way to our car after our hike through the forest we got a very close up look with some Elks. Words cannot express how amazing a day we were having. Once the Elks trotted away, we made our way over to the Fern Canyons.
The canyons were enormous… 100 feet deep at times!! Everything felt so surreal, like walking around in prehistoric time when everything was giant. But about 30 min into our hike a flash flood warning forced us to sprint back.
Just kidding! It was a perfect day- it’s California
Watch the attached video to see our truck through the dense forest in just a minute. We had to drive through the dense forest on a narrow dirt road, coming within feet of 40 foot drops.
