Leaving from Portland at 9 in the morning, we did not arrive to our hotel in Eureka (near Redwood National Park) until about 8 at night. The 11 hour drive was one of the easiest drives we have ever done. Every single moment of that drive was scenic. The drive was unbelievable. The pictures above may seem amazing, but they do not do justice.
To get to our hotel we drove straight through the Redwoods – it was late and we decided to wake up early and hike through them the next morning. The drive through the enormous trees however was still mind blowing. With some about 4 times taller than trees back home and at least 10 times wider in diameter, we could not believe what we were seeing.
While in the heart of the Redwoods and towards the end of our drive to Eureka, we ran into a heard of Elks. There must have been close to 40 Elk.. If you listen closely in the video attached you can hear an Elk calling out in a loud scream.
Once we arrive at our hotel in Eureka we headed out to dinner at restaurant called “The Lost Coast”. They brewed their own beer and sold them by the pitcher. An 11 hour drive… we deserved this! Only a 5 minute walk back to the hotel and we passed out.
